Field Notes is where I explore ideas and crystallize insights from my 10 years in Silicon Valley, covering the birth, growth, and inevitable end of our ventures—or our involvement with them.

Whether you realize it or not, if you’re a small business owner, managing teams at a large corporation, or stepping into your first board meeting as a founder, you are a leader. And that means you’re likely shouldering significant responsibility, navigating immense challenges, and, quite often, feeling the weight of it all alone.

I know these feelings all too well. In 2017, I was spinning my team out of a global design software giant, raising venture capital, and starting my second company. I was overwhelmed, out of my depth, and craving one thing above all—guidance.

What to expect.

This blog (hey, at least it’s not a podcast!) is my attempt to provide the guidance my 29-year-old self would have wanted. While there are plenty of resources offering tactical advice here we’ll dive into the often overlooked human aspects of running a business and the non-obvious factors that can significantly affect you and your company. Whether we’re uncovering the sources of investor biases or dissecting what ‘authenticity’ really means in leadership, my goal is for Field Notes to become a companion for anyone navigating the challenges of building and leading.
